Dorice
Horenstein

founder of jewish education services, llc.

Dorice had been working in education for over 30 years, teaching over 1000 students in private and class setting. She is passionate about teaching and learning. She loves sharing her ideas, experience, devotion, and love of Torah and Jewish traditions with children, teens and adults. She believes that through fostering leadership, and encouraging knowledge in others, we make a stronger, knowledgeable and more dedicated community.

Dorice was born and raised in Israel. She moved to Portland after her army service with the IDF and after meeting her soon-to-be husband while volunteering on a kibbutz. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a certificate in Linguistics from Portland State University, in addition to a Project Management certificate from the Center of Executive and Professional Development at Portland State University.

Two of Dorice’s hobbies— Israeli folk dancing and spending time with family and friends.

More About Dorice

Dorice Horenstein is a master teacher. She has taught tens of hundreds of children and adults, Jews and non-Jews: the gems of Judaism, with an emphasis on the Hebrew language. Dorice has worked in synagogues and private schools, led sessions for NewCAJE, and the Spring Conference of the North by Northwest Region of Women’s League of Conservative Judaism organizations. She was the Education Director at a synagogue in Portland, Oregon, for over sixteen years. Together with her husband, Dorice has three children. She enjoys dancing in her spare time and getting the word out about her new book Moments of The Heart.

"Dorice is so knowledgeable about Hebrew and the subjects she teaches. She finds interesting threads that tie everything together and make the learning feel enriching and complete (though there is always more to learn!). As a non Jewish person, I found Dorice's approach friendly, informative, approachable and I always leave her lessons feeling like I have learned more than a few new letters or words, but a cultural and historical context, and motivation to continue my studies."
